Why God Is The Ultimate Father

God is the ultimate father.

He is so good and worthy of praise.

I’m so thankful that God loves us…and that we have the privilege of serving him and living for him and RELATING to him as a HEAVENLY FATHER.

Here’s what the Bible says about our Heavenly Father…

1 John 3:1 NIV

1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

If you know Jesus Christ as your savior, you are NOW…presently…a child of God! There is no waiting. God is YOUR Father.

He loves you with an everlasting love.

As the song says, “the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.”

Why is God’s love reckless? Because He is a Father that will go to any lengths to help you, save you, catch you when you’re falling, and be with you.

God is the Ultimate Father!

So many people only think of God in terms of an all powerful being that rules over the universe. They believe God to be a distant, untouchable force that simply exists “out there” somewhere. But God is so much more.

  • God doesn’t only desire to relate to you as a God.
  • He doesn’t just want to relate to you as a Lord.
  • He doesn’t want to relate to you only as a friend.

When it comes to you and your life as a believer, the favorite thing God wants to do is relate to you as a FATHER.

God is the ULTIMATE Father.

He longs to be your Heavenly Father and to have you relate to him in that respect.

In fact, there are aspects of God’s goodness that can be known in NO OTHER WAY than through the lens of a Father to his children.

Think about it…What was it that Jesus prayed we would experience?

When he was about to go to the cross and pay the ultimate sacrifice…Jesus prayed and he interceded to God his Father for YOU and FOR ME.

And this is what he prayed:

John 17:6–11 NLTse

6 “I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

7 Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you,

Everything that God the Father did in and through the life of Jesus was God’s gift to him.

It was God the Father showing favor and kindness to him.

It was the Father protecting, loving, and empowering Jesus.

8 for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.

9 “My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you.

10 All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory.

11 Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.

And not just with each other either, but God himself desires to be ONE WITH YOU.

He wants to know you personally and deep…as a Father knows his child that he loves.

To truly understand God, you have to understand that he views you with and through a Father’s heart.

If you are a believer:

  • God is not out to get you.
  • God is not trying to tempt you.
  • God is not trying to make things difficult for you.

What God is doing is seeking to be YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER.

For some, this truth might be hard to understand if you didn’t have a great relationship with your dad, but

GOD IS NOT LIKE AN EARTHLY FATHER who has imperfections and faults.

There are four things we must take the time to understand about God, and once we see them as truth, respond to them.

1. God CHOSE you.

Say that statement out loud right now.

Wherever you are, say it: “God Chose ME.”

When you and I realize the power of this statement, it will change everything about our life.

God wasn’t stuck with you.

You were not a mistake or an accident.

Rather, God formed you and created you. He planned you before you were ever born.

Psalm 139:16 NLTse

16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

God is the ULTIMATE Father.

There was a love in God’s heart for you that brought your life into existence in the first place.

And the amazing thing is this:

God adopted you.

Ephesians 1:4–5 NLTse

4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.

5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Say it again: “God chose Me.”

 2. God is always thinking of YOU.

God’s thoughts are multiplied toward you like the sand on the seashore.

There’s no way that you can count all the times you cross his mind.

Psalm 139:17–18 NLTse

17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!

18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

The devil, your situation, and your circumstance would have you to believe that God has forgotten about you.

Sometimes you FEEL like he is no longer with you and doesn’t care about you, but those thoughts couldn’t be further from the truth.

God cares about you and you are the NUMBER ONE THOUGHT on his mind.

I don’t know what God did before he created humanity. but I know this, once he created you, you became the reason for his existence and the number one thought of his mind.

Every moment of time is a moment that God is looking out for you.

Every moment of time is a moment that God is looking out for you.

God’s thoughts toward you are good, pleasing, and perfect.

They involve the very best of the best. Why? Because YOU are HIS CHILD.

If you as a parent, a mom, or a dad spend time thinking about ways to help your kids, HOW MUCH MORE does your heavenly Father do that for you?

3. God wants to BLESS YOU.

This is a powerful principle.

When we follow God’s path, God’s plan, and God’s purpose, we will always experience his provision.

One of the reasons that you are on God’s mind is the fact that he is LOOKING FOR WAYS TO BLESS YOU.

I know this idea gets abused by many, but it is still true, nonetheless.

God is a blessing-giving God.

For years, this truth seemed to be hidden to many.

When I grew up, it seems that we were never taught this.

Nevertheless it is true.

Sometimes we get hung up on the power and authority of God, and those certainly are real aspects of his character, but we tend to forget about the loving FATHERHOOD of God which longs to help, bless, and provide for his children.

Fatherhood is an intimate part of God’s character.

You cannot separate the Fatherhood of God from his character without destroying who God really is.

You cannot separate the Fatherhood of God from his character without destroying who God really is. @larryshankle

Let me ask you a question: WOULD YOU LET YOUR KIDS GO HUNGRY? No.

You would do whatever it takes to nurture, feed, care for, and bless your children, and rightfully so…because you love them.

If you are a dad, you know that you would do anything in your power to provide for your kids.

If you as earthly fathers know how to give good gifts to your children…how much more will our Heavenly Father give GOOD THINGS to those who love him and ask him?

If you have yet to find God’s answer to your prayer, don’t give up. Be encouraged. God is working out everything for your GOOD. Why? Because that is what he does and that is the kind of God he is.

Matthew 7:7–11 NLTse

7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?

10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!

11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

The emphasis is on the fact that CHILDREN simply ask.

  • They don’t consider the COST.
  • They don’t consider the EFFORT NEEDED.
  • They don’t consider the IMPOSSIBILITY.
  • They don’t consider the TIME INVOLVED.

It never enters a child’s mind that dad will not do what they asked him to do.

Children just ASK.

Children just BELIEVE.

Children just EXPECT.

Our attitude towards God should be: Just Ask Him!

He longs to bless you and give good gifts into your life!

There are things we need to understand about the provision and blessing of God, but the principle is CLEAR…ask!

Mark 11:24 NLTse

24 I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.

#prayer Mark 11_24

Philippians 4:19 NLTse

19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

4. God has a PLAN for your life.

No matter your age God still has a plan for you.

No matter whether you are a man or a woman, God still has a plan for you.

No matter whether you feel qualified or not, God still has a plan for you.

God takes people who the world calls worthless and he qualifies them through his grace, calls them through his love, and empowers them through his Spirit.

1 Corinthians 1:25–28 NLTse

25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

26 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you.

27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.

28 God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.

These four truths can change your life, but YOU MUST RESPOND TO THEM.

Here’s how to respond:

1. Call on the name of the Lord.

Make him YOUR Lord and YOUR God. Daily, choose to make God your Heavenly Father. Call out to him as a Father.

2. Trust him with your situations.

Things might not look well for you at the moment, and all the pieces of the puzzle might not seem to fit, but choose to TRUST GOD ANYWAY.

God is the ULTIMATE FATHER and he will not leave you or forsake you.

I know that not every situation seems to work out the way we want or the way we hope, but ultimately, God is still a Father who will never leave you without hope.

His plan for your life CAN and WILL work out for your GOOD if you simply trust him.

3. Don’t ever give up on your Heavenly Father’s ABILITY in your life.

  • It may take time…but it’s coming.
  • It may take work…but it’s going to happen.
  • It may take perseverance…but it’s worth it.

Never give up on the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of your Heavenly Father.

There is NOTHING he won’t do to help you, save you, keep you, provide for you, encourage you, and bless you.
