The Lord Is On Your Side

Have you ever felt alone?

Being alone means there is no one who can help you. When you are alone you are separated, apart, and isolated from others.

It is a feeling that can be overwhelming. And many people, even believers, grapple with this feeling of being alone.

A nationwide survey, conducted in May 2018 has some alarming statistics regarding the feeling of Aloneness.

Here is their quote:

“Health insurer Cigna took a nationwide survey of 20,000 adults and found that 54% of respondents said they feel like no one actually knows them well, NPR reports. Additionally, 56% of people said the people they surround themselves around “are not necessarily with them,” and approximately 40% said they “lack companionship,” their “relationships aren’t meaningful,” and that they feel “isolated from others.””

If you know someone that says they feel alone, don’t shun them for it. They need you.

The feeling of being alone is not a lack of faith on their part, it is a spiritual attack from the devil.

This feeling of isolation and aloneness is one of the prime tactics of the devil.

He singles you out in the crowd. The enemy trifles with your mind. Satan whispers fearsome thoughts in your ear.

This is his favorite game. In fact, it is what the devil does best. Satan wants you to feel as though you are isolated and away from all help, and every source of strength and solace.

If he can keep you from being comforted in your fear and keep you distressed about your seeming misfortunes, he knows your mind will grow weary with the burden and you will want to quit.

See, if Satan can just get you to give up, then he has won the battle…often without lifting a finger.

He wants to make you feel alone and then he underscores the emotional isolation that you are going through.

But there is a truth the devil wants you to forget. The further from your mind the devil can keep this truth, the closer he comes to keeping you enslaved in bondage to fear and emotional pain.

Here is the truth: God never leaves you alone.

Matthew 28:20 NLT

[20] Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Jesus will never leave you and he will never forsake you.

In fact, the Lord has promised to give us a comforter in he midst of our distress who will walk beside us and actually live in us.

The comforter is God’s Holy Spirit. The essence of God himself will live inside of you, filtering into your heart, mind, and daily walk.

He will speak truth in your ear that combats the constant barrage of lies the devil speaks.

Let me be clear: You need the filling of the Holy Spirit.

You and I need the fullness of the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Many people don’t want to talk about this anymore because they feel like it is an old fashioned thing. But being filled and baptized in the Holy Spirit is an essential experience that empowers you to overcome.

Being fully baptized in the Holy Spirit opens you up to be equipped with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Things like discernment, are heightened to their full potential through the Holy Spirit’s work in your life.

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 KJV

[4] Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. [5] And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. [6] And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. [7] But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. [8] For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; [9] To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; [10] To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: [11] But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Each and every gift of the Holy Spirit is intended to equip you for spiritual battle and has the power to make you overcome.

John 14:26-27 NLT

[26] But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative-that is, the Holy Spirit-he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. [27] “I am leaving you with a gift-peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

You are not alone in the battle. The fight you are in is not a fight you face alone. God is there. He is bringing peace that passes understanding. You don’t have to be afraid.

The Holy Spirit of God himself is your advocate. An advocate is someone who pleads for or in behalf of another. The Holy Spirit pleads your case and intercedes on your behalf.

This means God literally feels what you feel and experiences what you experience. He is fully aware of the hurt and pain you may be facing right now.

With this being said, there is another passage of scripture that truly speaks to this notion from the enemy that you are alone.

It reminds you that you are not alone. In fact, the Lord is on your side.

Psalm 124:1-8 KJV

[1] If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say;

Because the Lord is on your side, you have a huge advantage!

If God is for you, who can be against you?

[2] If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us: [3] Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

People can be cruel, and often satanic forces use people to oppose you in ways that those opposing you may not even realize they are doing.

Damaging words, unintentional slights, and misconceptions, all have their place on the battlefield. They rise up against you in the hopes of killing your faith and your resilience.

Had it not been for the Lord on your side, you would never make it through.

If the Lord was NOT on your side…

[4] Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: [5] Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

The word “soul” in this passage means the part of you that thinks, feels, and wills. In other words, your mind.

Even when the enemy uses other people against you, they cannot win until you let them win the battle for your mind.

Your circumstance is not going to overwhelm you until you give it victory in your mind.

Certainly, the devil wants to proudly stand against you and overcome your resolve, but as long as you retain the WILL to WIN, Satan has no chance.

The God inside of you is always bigger than the battle surrounding you!

[6] Blessed be the Lord , who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

Since God is your Lord, he will not allow you to lose the fight. The Lord will never give you over to the cutting teeth of the enemy.

Your enemy may gnash and grind with his words, but your spirit and your soul are not going to go under. Why? Because God has not and will not give you over into the enemy’s hand.

You need to be encouraged. With the Lord on your side, you are more than a match for the enemy.

Yes, you may have to face battles and those wars may be hard and difficult, but you will win in the end if you simply keep the will to win and don’t give up!

[7] Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

Listen to that verse.

Your soul…Your mind, emotions, and will are escaped from the snare.

You are set free in your mind through the work of the Holy Spirit inside of you.

Your mind is free from the devil’s snare. A snare was a wide net that was spread out in order to catch prey.

It comes from the root words meaning to LAY SNARES, which means to plot and devise against someone. These word snares are plots intended to cause a man to fall and come to ruin.

But take courage, because even the best laid snares and most cunningly devised plots are no match for the truth of God in your life.

When you live with the Lord on your side and with character, integrity, and the Holy Spirit as your advocate, their is no snare that can hold you.

The cross of Jesus has broken every snare of the enemy. Jesus broke the back of the devil when he died on the cross.

Satan’s snares we WILL evade and overcome!

Those things intended for our harm will fall on the head of the enemy who placed it.

Here’s why…

[8] Our help is in the name of the Lord , who made heaven and earth.

Anything you need, the Lord can supply.

He is the one with all the power and strength.

Jesus is limitless in his ability to help you!

The Bible declares…

Psalm 61:1-5 NKJV

[1] Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. [2] From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. [3] For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. [4] I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah [5] For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name.

What is the heritage of those who fear the Lord? The Bible is very clear about it.

Isaiah 54:17 NKJV

[17] No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD.

Today you need to rise up and live in your heritage.

It is a heritage of victory.

You are an overcomer. No weapon formed against you will prosper. That means the weapons of the enemy will not be successful or flourish against you.

The tongue of the enemy, you will condemn. This means you have the authority to label those malicious words of the devil as unfit, and guilty. You have legal grounds to convict him.

Why? Because your righteousness does not originate with you, but instead, it flows from the Lord.

Proverbs 18:10 NKJV

[10] The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.
