Make A Place For Jesus In Your Life

Over the last few weeks we’ve talked a lot about order.

And this morning, as we celebrate the season of Jesus’ birth, I want to build on what we’ve been talking about.

Why? Because it’s not always easy or Convienient to get the things of our life into the right order.

There is something powerful that we have to DO if we want to correctly order our life and be blessed by the Lord.

Maybe you’re here today and you’re ’ve never fully made a place in your life for Jesus, if so today is absolutely for you.

Even if you’ve been a believer in Jesus for a long time and he is completely the Lord of your life, if you forget this simple principle we are going to talk about this morning, you will miss what God wants to do in your life.

Here’s the deal...
We think that we need more faith.
• That if I just had more faith, things would be different in my life.
• If I just believed stronger, deeper, more fully...maybe the situation wouldn’t have spiraled out of control.
• If I could just go back and make some space in my heart for more faith, the cornerstone of what I say I believe, things wouldn’t have been like they are today.
But to say things like this or believe things like this is to believe a lie.
It is a contradiction in terms.
Jesus himself said that a faith the size of a mustard seed could move mountains, and not just move them, but cause them to be cast into the sea.
I want to believe what Jesus says instead of what my situation tells me.
I certainly don’t want to believe what the devil tells me could’ve or should’ve been.
But there is a grain of truth to all this thinking, and it’s at this season of the year that we see the truth most fully.
There MAY BE A REASON that things don’t seem right in your life.
  • There just may be a cause for the stress, anxiety, and fear.
  • There just may be something that is keeping you in turmoil.
All the way back in the Bible we see it. Jesus started his life showing the need.
Luke 2:1–7 NKJV
1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. (Taxed)
2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria.
3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
She was with child.
She was pregnant with possibilities. She was going to give birth to the promise of God.
Here is what you need to know:
  • There is also a promise of God for your life.
  • There is something that God wants to give birth to in you.
  • There is a reason for the hope in your heart.
  • There is a prayer that God will answer.
  • There is a need that God will meet
  • There is a hope that The Lord will fulfill.
You feel the pain of it at the moment, but it’s because you are going to give birth to it.
Something in your life CAN and WILL happen.
Expect it and believe it.
6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.
  • While they were there in the hustle and bustle.
  • While they were in the middle of things they really didn’t have time for.
  • While they were being inconvenienced.
Jesus usually comes when it seems inconvenient for us, but He is actually RIGHT ON TIME.
There will be a day when it is YOUR DAY to be delivered.
There will be a day when it is YOUR DAY for things to be complete.
There is something coming for you from the Lord.
It may happen at the oddest or most insecure, and inconvenient moment, but don’t turn away the plan of God or the provision of God.
Don’t walk away from what God is trying to do in your life.
Don’t allow the season of God’s GIVING to slip through your fingers.
Listen to the next verse, because there is a principle in all of this.
7 And she brought forth her "rstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
This is what you need to do today: Make a place for Jesus in your life.
Give him space.
Open up your heart to Jesus.
Put him first, seek him first, listen to him first.
If you want things in your life to be ordered correctly and live your life in a "bless-able" position, make a place for Jesus in your life.
At any other time there would’ve been room. At any other season, there would have been lodging.
At any other day of the year there could have been plenty of places for the biggest event in human history to take place.
What was the event? This was the advent of God in the flesh.
No one expected for God to show up that night. They didn’t look at Mary and Joseph and think that the Savior of the world was going to be born.
God’s entry into the world so to speak, was veiled, and wrapped in a package that no one would expect.
How many times would God have come through for you in your life if you would have looked closer at the packaging of the situation?
God, as is his custom, seems to always show up when he is least expected.
God always does more than we deserve, in a way that we NEVER would have chosen, in places that seem to make absolutely no sense.
Why? Because this is his way.
Maybe God simply needs space to accomplish it.
This is what you need to do today: Make a place for Jesus in your life.
The Lord started all of this by giving HUMANITY A CHOICE.
There was no place for Jesus in the inn. And the choice that the innkeeper had to make that night was simple...
He could choose to make a place for Jesus, or leave him out in the cold.
The whole point of this message is simple.
Are you making a place for Jesus in YOUR life?
It’s a simple choice.
But it’s not an EASY CHOICE.
Easy and simple aren’t always the same.
• It’s simple because there are only two possibilities.
• I either make a place for Jesus in my life or I don’t.
It’s a diffcult choice on the other hand BECAUSE IT MEANS THAT MY LIFE IS ALREADY FULL, and there are things that I must rid myself of.
I must push some things out in order to put SOMEONE in.
Why did the innkeeper turn Mary away? Because he already had his INN FULL. He already had the things and people INSIDE that he thought he needed.
How many people miss out on the things of God and the power of Jesus in their life because they are already SO FULL of everything ELSE?
Keeping Jesus first in our life, letting his kingdom be our number one priority, and giving all we have to him first means emptying our desires, for his.
We must exchange our wants for God’s wants.
We must exchange our plans and dreams, for his plans and his dreams.
At first glance, it seems that we give up too much to make a place for Jesus in our life, but in the end, we find out what we give up can NEVER outweigh what we RECEIVE in return.
Jesus said it best himself:
John 8:37 NKJV
[37] "I know that you are Abraham's descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.
We may not be physically killing Jesus...
But are we killing the plans of God in our life?
Are we killing what he would love to bless us with?
Are we killing the opportunities that he provides in our life?
Are we killing our hope for eternity and abundance because we refuse to give up some things and make room for him?
You and I have to make a choice...
This is what you need to do today: Make a place for Jesus in your life.
What is your heart filled with?
  • Worry
  • Doubt
  • Fear
  • Grief
  • Unforgiveness
  • Anger
  • Upset feelings
Maybe none of these
Maybe instead it is filled with pursuit of
◆ Money
◆ Time
◆ Friendships
◆ Relationships
Maybe your heart is filled with contentedness about WHAT YOU HAVE DONE WITH YOUR LIFE. Which at first may seem like a good thing...but later reveals itself through something not so good like:
◆ Pride in your choices
◆ Pride in your moral value
◆ Pride in your reputation
◆ Pride in your spiritual walk
◆ Pride in your family
◆ Pride in your heritage.
Let me say this...
Whether you seem to be a good person or NOT.
However, when you make a place for Jesus in your life, he makes a place for the things, the people, the blessings, and the salvation that you most need and want.
The question isn’t:
The question is:
You have to make the choice to clear the clutter out of your heart and make a space available for God to work in your life.
You have to make a place for Jesus in your life. You have to be willing to fill your heart with Jesus. You have to LET Jesus have his way in your life. You have to LET Jesus take over in your heart. You have to LET Jesus be in control of your choices, decisions, and actions. Then you have to let him FILL YOU.
Fill you to the full.
Fill you to overflowing.
Fill you until there is NO ROOM for anything else except what he allows in.
But the choice begins with you.
Make a place for Jesus in your life.
